Cat adoption vs Child adoption

We thought it may be a good time to get the kids a kitten, since we don't have enough chaos around here! But since we were unsure how the kids would do with a cat I had the idea to take them to the Humane Society and play with some cats to see if they wanted one. So, I picked them up from school and went to the local shelter. When we arrived the workers were not very happy that I brought 3 young children into the shelter!! They said that we would not be allowed to touch the cats unless I filled out a application (5 pages) and the manager approved us. I tried to explain that we did not want to "adopt" a cat today we just wanted to see what they had, but they would not budge on their policy, so I filled out the application. I felt like we were adopting another child!! They wanted references, home visit, and background pet information. I wanted to ask if they needed INS paperwork, fingerprints, approved home study, and authenticated dossier (adoptive families will get all this!!). After the manager looked over our application told us that we could only look at older cats since our kids were so young, not what we wanted at all. Then they took us to the cat room were there were about 50 cats in cages. The lady said that only she could hold the cats because the kids could hurt them (the whole point in going was to see how the kids would do with them!). But soon she had to leave and the caretaker said we could hold any of them we wanted. We played with some cats for about 30 minutes and then headed home. As I was driving I thought to myself that we were able to adopt CHILDREN 3 times with no problem, but were not approved to adopt a kitten! And that they have 50 adult cats and who knows how many kittens (could not see them) and would rather them stay in cages at the shelter than go to a home because we have kids! When I got home and put the kids down for a nap I started getting a terrible head ache and itchy eyes, so I changed out of the clothes that had cat hair on them and immediately started feeling better. So, it looks like after all that trouble we are not getting a cat anyway because I am allergic to them!! Guess we will just stick to adopting CHILDREN!!!!

October...

Fall is my favorite time of the year!! I love taking pictures of fall scenery, so I can not wait for the leaves to change. The above picture was taken on the first of October, and I am very proud to say that I made the girls pumpkin dresses and bows!! The following are just some pictures from around our house.
The kids and I are enjoying the cooler weather by going to the park with friends.

Crossbow for a 3 year old????????

Jason thought that the kids would enjoy playing with a crossbow!! He thought it would be completely safe since the arrows are plastic, but then Harrison was shot in the lip and we found out that it can hurt!! Our kids never get normal "age appropriate" toys!

Lizard Update...

It looks like Ernesto's name has to be changed to Dora!!!

Harrison's new pets...

Harrison got 2 new pets today, Diego and Ernesto, both lizards (we said they were Hispanic like Harrison, hence the names!!!) We also are not sure if they are boys or girls, guess we will soon see!
For those of you who know Jason and I know that we love to have unusual pets (goats and rabbits that live together, indoor chicken). So, when Harrison asked if he could have a lizard in his room we said sure why not have 2!! So, we bought a reptile tank and caught 2 lizards at our house this morning (special lizards in pet store were $60).
Ernesto is on the left and Diego is on the right.
Notice Harrison's shoulder.

The girls really like them too!!
And yes, the girls have on monogrammed camouflage shirts and camouflage hair bows!!

Favorite Foto Friday: Summer Memories

The theme for this weeks Favorite Foto Friday (thanks to Sarah at Kiss the Frog 4 Me) is Summer Memories. Our family had a great summer with many changes to our life. Looking back I can see how God has directed our steps and I feel so thankful to be His child! I also feel very blessed to have a wonderful family!
Our fist major change is that we moved, rather quickly from Georgia to Alabama. Jason accepted a job at the end of May and we moved June 1.
Good Bye Georgia...
Hello Alabama...
The kids grew so much and developed into big kids! But I tell them they will always be my babies!
We made many visits to the farm in south Georgia to visit family. The kids favorite thing to do at the farm is play on the tire swing.
And we made MANY trips to Orange Beach, Al. Jay has to work in an office down there several times a month, so the kids and I got to tag along and enjoy the sand and sun!

We spent July 4th at Lake Martin with Jay's family.

But my favorite memory of the summer would have to be just watching the kids play outside and enjoying our new life in the country. They love playing with the dogs, walking in the woods, playing in the creek, and drawing on the driveway with chalk.
Hope everyone has a great weekend and is now making many Fall memories (my favorite season!).
